about

My Uncle Duke, (David Keaggy), is my dad’s younger brother. They had two sisters in between them—Mary and Shirley. My dad and aunties are gone to heaven—Uncle Duke still remains with us, and he is a vigorous man of 92 and about to turn 93 soon! He has always been an active man with many talents. We are all proud of him! At his 90th birthday party which I attended, he did, in front of family and friends alike, 75 pushups in 60 seconds! Big applause!

He is a champion archer and a fine pool player. He even designed a pool cue.
One day back in 2000, he sent me a poem and he was curious if I could make up music for it. It was called Duct Tape Universe. Well, I did, and more poems came my way from him. It was a fun time of collaboration with Uncle Duke. It even made me feel close to my own dad again, their voices being quite similar in their expressions. Uncle sent me poems about his air corps days and also poems about his beloved Connie—God rest her.. How they loved each other!
He and Connie had sons and daughters.. and beloved grandkids.

Other poems were about pool, the digital world and a story about a young baby girl who was related to the family named Ramona. There are a few songs I didn’t include in this collection for the sake of keeping a certain flow I hoped to achieve. Thanks for your understanding of my choices. So, all the words are from Uncle Duke and the melodies and music came from me, his “young” nephew.
My thanks to Jeffrey Johnson (of Kansas City MO) for his contribution vocally, percussion and accordion on Hut City.

Thanks all and God bless you, Uncle Duke

(nephew) Phil Keaggy

Ps, I added a tune I wrote for Uncle Duke last year in July 2018. He sent me a new poem about his turning 92 and I sent him back this recording.
Thought I'd throw it in the mix..
